About Us
Learn about the NHS Take Home Pay Calculator
Our Mission
The NHS Take Home Pay Calculator was created to help NHS staff across England, Wales, and Scotland understand their take-home pay quickly and accurately. We believe every healthcare worker deserves a clear, transparent view of how their salary is calculated after all deductions.
What We Do
Our free online calculator provides instant, detailed breakdowns of NHS salaries, covering:
- All Agenda for Change (AfC) Pay Bands – from Band 2 through Band 9, including all pay points for the 2025/26 financial year
- Income Tax – accurate calculations for England, Wales, and Scotland (including Scottish starter, intermediate, and higher rates)
- National Insurance – calculated using the latest NI thresholds and rates
- NHS Pension Contributions – tiered contribution rates based on your pensionable pay
- Student Loan Repayments – Plans 1, 2, 4, 5, and Postgraduate loans
Why We Built This
Understanding your NHS pay slip can be confusing. With multiple deductions, varying pension tiers, different tax regimes across the UK nations, and optional student loan repayments, it is hard to know exactly what you will take home each month.
We built this calculator to eliminate that confusion. Whether you are a newly qualified nurse starting at Band 5, an experienced physiotherapist at Band 7, or a consultant at Band 8a, our tool gives you an instant, accurate picture of your finances.
Accuracy and Data Sources
Our calculator uses official data from:
- NHS Employers – for Agenda for Change pay scales 2025/26
- HMRC – for income tax rates, thresholds, and National Insurance contributions
- NHS Pension Scheme – for tiered contribution rates
- Student Loans Company – for repayment thresholds and rates
We update our data at the start of each financial year to ensure calculations remain accurate.
Who Made This
This calculator was designed and developed by Sadeem, a developer passionate about creating useful tools for public sector workers. The project is open source and continuously improved based on user feedback.
